Everson Museum & Expansion

Location: Syracuse, NY

The waffle slab floats overhead between narrow glass strips so that light slips down the sides of the court to separate the four gallery blocks.

Galleries are interconnected by open bridges around the central space in a richly varies path through the museum, sparked by mystery and surprise.

Since the museum needed continuous wall surface for display and since, in any event, there was nothing outside to see, the designers exploited the inherent strength of a solid wall to create four enormous cantilevers in a tour de force integration of engineering, architecture, and art.
