Chang’An Development

Location: Beijing, China

Chang’An Development is being planned to provide luxury housing for foreign business people and professionals working in Beijing. In addition, the substantial site will offer boutique office space, luxury shopping, parking and outdoor green space.

Guiding the design is a geometric analysis of the physical site to maximize South-facing window area for the residences; create the largest possible private garden; and place the entrances for each group — residential, office building, shopping and parking — in their most ideal locations.

The towers are composed of rotated, interlocking squares. The rotation serves to both animate the design and allow a different maximized vista from each apartment.
