Fifth Avenue Residence

Elegant, simple, light-filled spatial triplex New York residence for a prominent art collector located on Fifth Avenue adjacent to Central Park.

Utilizing three adjacent floors at the top of a pre-war cooperative building, the stated objective was to renovate two independent but connected residences consisting of a floor through apartment to the highest level and a duplex on the two floors below, all connected by a new elevator.

Serene natural materials predominate. The color scheme, developed in collaboration with Donald Kaufman, utilizes a range of neutral and off-whites that create variety and are subdued enough to provide an appropriate backdrop for the owners’ extensive art collection. Substantial glazed areas and carefully coordinated lighting illuminate the art and space, with views out just above the treetops of Central Park. Subtle traditional detailing and rich materials maintains continuity with the traditional classical architecture of the building.
