Bank of China

Location: Hong Kong, China

Widely proclaimed, “one of the most outstanding achievements in modern architecture,” the Bank of China tower has quickly become an inseparable part of the skyline of Hong Kong.

Appearance and structure are united in the distinctive geometric form that rises from a square base through four prismatic triangular transition to its 51-metre-high spire, echoing the modular growth of the ubiquitous Chinese bamboo.

Based in the traditions of Chinese garden design, the 1,300 metre garden marries modern geometry with naturalistic elements.

At once mysterious and inexorably logical, the reflective glass tower is like a monumental sculpture that changes with the viewer’s position and time of day, drawing light from the sky even on overcast days.
